A FIXED PRICE ON TREATMENTS

One of the most frequent calls to our reception often starts with the question, “What does a consultation and a teeth cleaning cost at your clinic?” Our answer always is: “Exactly the same as every other dental clinic in Denmark!” It can be a bit overwhelming to look into prices at dentist clinics, but you should be aware that the price of almost 80% of all treatments are fixed. Thismeans that it’s the same in all dental clinics in Denmark and are unregulated by either patient or dentist. The price is the same due to the fact that it has been fixed through negotiations with the National Public Social Security (the Danish Sygesikringen) and the Danish Dental Association. Which ultimately serves to protect the customers.

The idea between this custom of keeping fixed prices is that anything relating to ordinary tooth saving and preventive treatments, which society is understandably interested in becoming the norm, since it will maintain general oral health on a high standard and ultimatively prove cheapest for the tax payers. Do an online search for these prices under the tab “honorartabeller”:

INDIVIDUALLY ESTIMATED PRICES

The last part of the prices for treatments are the individually estimated prices. These prices are set by each dentist and may thus vary from one dentist to another. Consumers and the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority are very interested in dentists competiting on prices, since it usually gives the consumer a better price. Estimated prices usually include restoring treatment of a tooth, after having fixed it with the tooth saving procedures. The tooth can be further sealed from future fissures and cracks by for instance fixing it with a crown or dental bridge. In these instances, The National Social Security does not offer any cost-cutting refunds that make treatment cheaper.

DOCUMENTATION FOR MATERIALS

We could lower our prices by getting crowns and bridges made in China or India. However, we have no intention of doing so.
We have absolute trust to the laboratory technicians in Scandinavia and their high level of education. They can at all times vouch for the content and quality of the materials used in treatments.

DOCUMENTATION FOR FURTHER EDUCATION

We could lower our prices by not pursuing further education for our staff. We deliberately choose to spend 80-100.000 DKK on seminars and education each year, and we are not going to change that. Our vision is to first and foremost deliver the highest possible competencies and knowledge to our patients.

DOCUMENTATION FOR TREATMENTS

We could lower our prices by not adhering to the Dentist’s Accord (Tandlægeoverenskomsten in Danish.) We have decided to follow the National Clinical Guidelines from The Danish Health Authority, which is the premise for the Dentist’s Accord. “NKR“ – a comprehensive publication of the danish national clinical guidelines clearly states what is evidence-based treatment or not. A question that is frequently made to us is, “Do you use laser treatment for gum disease?” We do not. Laser understandably enough sounds new, exciting and promising. However, the National Clinical Guidelines clearly advices against using laser – they even inform us that this method of treatment has no proven effect. If we choose to implement a new procedure or equipment into our practice it must be documented that it’s significantly better than what we already have

In conclusion, our goal is maintaining the highest possible standard on our clinic with documented quality materials, further education and treatments. We hope to be acknowledged for our no-nonsense approach. Our mindset is that our patients are rewarded by our approach to things.
