When do you need a root canal treatment?
A root canal may be necessary when the tooth’s nerve is damaged or inflamed due to deep cavities, dental trauma or previous dental treatments. Some typical signs that you may need a root canal include:
- Severe toothache, especially when chewing
- Prolonged sensitivity to heat and cold
- Swelling of the gums around the affected tooth
- Dark discoloration of the tooth
- A persistent bad taste in your mouth
If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s important to seek dental care quickly to prevent the infection from spreading and leading to further complications.
How does a root canal treatment at ValbyTand work?
Diagnosis: We start with a thorough examination of the tooth and take X-rays to assess the extent of the inflammation in the root of the tooth.
Anesthesia: To ensure you feel comfortable and pain-free throughout the treatment, we use local anesthesia.
Removal of inflammation: The tooth’s nerve and inflamed tissue are carefully removed from the root canals, after which the canals are disinfected to ensure all bacteria are removed.
Root canal filling: Once the tooth is cleaned, the root canals are filled with a special material that seals the tooth and prevents future infections.
Rebuilding the tooth: In some cases, treatment is completed with a crown to protect the tooth and ensure it is strong enough to withstand chewing stress.
